Extreme Iceland: Day 4

Road Trip, Day 4
We started the day with a rainy rainy weather. The trip plan for the day basically was to go through all sought coast of Iceland. And, yes, we managed it! Rain and the wind was beating us, and making condition to take photos really hard. By the end of the day out coats were wet like they were taken off from the washing machine. In order to survive, we literally needed to make a sauna inside the car.

We left the apartment around 9 that morning, heading our first stop Seljalandsfoss. On the way the nature continued to amaze me. Steam and sulfur coming out from the ground. It might be so natural thing for locals, yes, but it is still wow!

I was just hoping that it would not be frozen around the waterfall, cos as far as I knew it was possible to walk behind the waterfall. Lucky, weather was on our side.

Seljalandsfoss is having hard time with the strong wind! So do people!
Yes, the weather was harsh on us, especially it was painful when small drops of rain met with strong wind. Of course my only concern was keeping my camera dry! Don't mind the rain, as long as the camera functions.

After Seljalandsfoss, next stop was Skogarfoss, one of the highest waterfall of Iceland. It is around 60 meters high, also there was an opportunity to see it from the top. Also I highly recommend to drink some water from those waterfalls! Really smooth water, and can't easily find more natural one!

Feeling small!
Before we continue to our next destination, black sand beaches, we need to warm up (dry) and have lunch. The truth is, we didn't have the budget for Icelandic restaurants anymore, plus non of the restaurants would offer the joy we had in our lunch break. We had warmed up our water for coffee and soup, prepared some sandwiches and had a karaoke in the car!

After this nice lunch break, we drove to Dyrholaey Light house. Don't have words to explain how amazing the view is, yet I have the photos.

Next stop was Reynisfjara black sand beach and the little town Vik. The view was not less amazing than the previous location.

Beaten by the Ocean waves.

After having some off road trip around, we decided to go back to Vik to grab some food and drinks for the rest of the trip. The next destination, Jokulsarlon the Glacier Lagoon, required a long drive. The landscape to that direction was only rocks and ice! No sign of civilization, very few cars on the road, and raining cat and dogs. Unfortunately we did not manage to go to the Lagoon in day light. I believe that is a good excuse to go back to Iceland, one day...

We managed to go back to the apartment around midnight. We had our comfortable beds, warm apartment, sulfur smelly shover, well equipped kitchen, and comfy car. So that I call our trip a modern adventure. Unfortunately Day 5 will be the end of it!

To be continued...
